Jaymine, Cavegirl of the Month for June ‘05!
I met with Jaymine in this strange place. But very beautiful. It was a gleaming white marble castle in the sky, and we drank Diet Coke served by toga wearing elf slaves. I felt very tall that day.
Gaming Questions
How long have you been gaming?
Ohh. A very long time. I got an Atari 2600 when I was six, as a present for Christmas. That is.. a LONG time. But before even that, I would play Ms Pac-Man at the arcades whenever my family went to places like Las Vegas.
What got you started / Why do you like gaming?
I played a lot of Combat and Pac-Man with my daddy on the new Atari. When I was in grade school, Nintendo was popular, but we didn’t get one until very late. My younger brother and I played SO much Contra! Then, a classmate let me borrow one of the games from the Dragon Warrior series, I can’t remember which right now. But that was my introduction into RPGs, a passion that would last until the present day. My brother and I spent our savings on an SNES just to play Streetfighter 2. There was a lull in console gaming after that; I mostly gamed on-line with text RPGs called MUDs, but when I moved to Philadelphia in my early 20s, my boyfriend at the time, who knew I liked RPGs, showed me Final Fantasy VII. Not only was my love of RPGs reignited, but at the same time I had been playing Tekken 3 at the arcades (which he was also very good at). He also showed me Fallout 2, which has got to be one of my favorite PC games to date. It has been pretty constant after that.
What is your favorite game?
A favorite game is a hard thing to pick, like a favorite movie or book. There are so many different types that I like for different reasons. Currently, I am playing Guild Wars, an MMORPG.
What is your favorite Halo2 gametype?
I like straight-up slayer. No frills, no thinking, just shooting.
What is your favorite dual wielding combo?
I like most dual wielding combos; if possible, I usually grab whatever combo I’m close to. SMG/Magnum, PP/SMG…but
I would have to say that even after the downloadable content changes, I’m still fond of the plasma rifle/SMG. It’s beautiful; a meeting of two worlds, a promise of inter-species harmony. Do you remember that black and white cookie from Seinfeld? Just like that.
Favorite Map? Least Fave Map?
I’m fond of smaller maps, like Midship. I still haven’t really developed an opinion about the new maps, but my least favorite current has got to be Coagulation. Assault on Coagulation is about ten times worse.
Who do you like to play with the most?
Well, there is my usual crew, Ra, Ash, and Zoom! I’ve been neglecting them lately, though, and they haven’t held back in telling me this! (I agree Jaymine!~However, she is still gaming~and that is also what we are about!) I also love playing with the Cavegirls, when I can, I think they are all cool, wonderful ladies who understand what gaming should be about. As far as boys go, any guy with a sharp tongue who doesn’t rely only on obscenities to make me laugh is key.
What is your least favorite game/gametype Halo or otherwise?
ASSAULT, ASSAULT, ASSAULT. Unless we win.
How long have you been a member of the cave?
Since early January. Early JANUARY?! Wow, time flies.
Tell about how you found the Cave.
Oh, everyone knows that story. Lost, cold, tired and hungry, I melted Autumn’s heart and she gave me a home.
Actually…
I had posted a note on the Zanzibar forum sympathizing with some guy who said he wasn’t doing so well at Halo and wanted to get better. I snuck in the obligatory ‘As a girl gamer,’ line (something I’ve since stopped doing, once I understood some of the implications of that line), and Autumn stumbled across the thread. How lucky is that!
Personal Questions
When is your birthday?
March 7, 1977
Astrological sign?
Zodiac Pisces, and Chinese Snake. Fish and serpent. Is there a trend? I don’t really think I’m all that cold-blooded.
Married/Single
Single
Hometown/where you grew up
Well, I was born in Seoul, but adopted by American parents as a baby. I don’t speak any of the language. I’ve lived in several places, but spent most of my life on Maui. So I guess that’s it.
Favorite color?
Even if my armor is that purply color, I like darker colors. Green, grey, black. The fact that most of my wardrobe is light shades of blue is just happenstance.
Hobbies other than gaming?
Reading. I love fantasy books, too! George RR Martin, Pratchett, and Matthew Stover are a couple of my many favorite authors. Eating. I love most types of food, just like I love most types of games! I think airplane food is delicious, and I wish I knew how to give home-cooked food that unique taste. As most of the girls who try to catch me online know, I’m also fond of naps.
Best or funniest gaming story?
Every time I play Halo, there is always a best or funny moment. From unleashing the trash-talking, tea-bagging BEAST in Autumn (didn’t think it was possible, did yoU?), to getting the rockets on Ivory tower, turning around, and blowing up all three of my teammates (we had been blue in the last game, so red was supposed to be the enemy!). Ash’s deadpan comments, Ra’s screaming, Zoom’s DAMN STICKIES, and all those late-night ladies’ nights all serve to make the game fun. I hope to get to know everyone even better.
